JULIAN ROWE
I work in oils on canvas and board. I broadly divide my work into landscape/seascape on the one hand and life subjects on the other – which usually means the human figure though often in a landscape setting. I usually work toward a sense of the quality of a place which makes it most meaningful to me and not just a layout of objects in a setting objectively depicted.I’m after the way something feels, albeit sometimes for only a fleeting moment. The “spirit” of a scene under certain conditions such as light, time of year, time of day, my mood at the time, whether it’s busy or quiet etc. When things coalesce. This can be very profound to me and it’s what keeps me painting.
