LESLEY NINNES

The fascination with painting these small impressions never dims, drawing on the everyday inspiration of life in my hometown of St Ives and Cornwall, surrounded as it is on three sides by the sea. Visited by fast moving wild weather, gales and quiet, calm days, sunshine and rain.

Trying to capture brief, intangible moments, the feeling of being amidst so much elemental

energy and unlimited space continuing beyond the horizon and surrounding sky, is an exciting, unwinnable challenge. Transforming a flat, blank square into an outcome that in some way makes me – and others who view the finished work – think, ‘yes, that’s how it is’ or ‘I have been there’ is the reward. Check my blog (link below) to view my latest small paintings on board.
